Time .... Timeless

I was reading a write up by black and white photographer, Jason Peterson and was totally inspired. I love what he said about black and white photography,

"black and white photography erases time from the equation"

Summer Nights

We love playing outside. All the time. We would rather be outside than inside.

On these sweet summer nights we are often playing outside and all of a sudden the light is so magnificent that I have to run and get my camera.

"Freelensing" on a Wednesday

I don't take the luxury to work on personal projects as much as I should. (I am calling it a luxury but it really should be a necessity as it is important in aiding ones creative and personal growth). One thing on my list to explore has been freelensing. It is where you essentially shoot with the lens off your camera.

Being totally inspired by this evenings light I got out my camera and gave it a shot (haha…no pun intended).  O M G. I am hooked!

It gives you the ability to get macro images but also the ability to capture movement in a really cool way. And the light! omg the sparkling light.

This is just from around our yard. Can't wait to do more!

Our Fathers

They throw us in the air….they tickle us till we can't laugh anymore….they teach us to walk, to kick a ball….they read to us…. they support us as we grow….they are often the ones who are the most resistant to photo shoot. H A H A (couldn't help it)…..yet they produce the most awe inspiring photos bc they hold the key to so much joy and love. A N D in the end are so happy with the photos they are forever keepsakes of their family they are so proud of….

…..What better gift this Father's Day than a photo shoot!

When in Texas

When I was in Texas I was lucky enough to get to spend the night with one of my very best friends and her family. I had been dreaming of doing a photoshoot in their amazing home with their smiley, curly haired son who I couldn't wait to get my kids on and tickle! We had the best time and in about 30 mins managed to get shots I had been dreaming of and plotting out for months! Each spot in their home had ideal light and they were lovely and willing participants.

These photos are evidence of why I love in home sessions. There is so much than can be done at home and everyone is happy and comfortable in their space. You can be super creative and of course my most favorite, number one reason? B E D!!! You know how much I love me some bed photos! C A N T   G E T   E N O U G H …and if  you have a good bath tub… that will do, too.

What do you see?

When you look at a photo how does it make you feel? What do you think? Does it make you stare? Does it make you feel peaceful? Does it make you happy? satisfied?

These photos make me happy…and I can't stop staring at them. I see and feel love, joy, light, peace, beauty, satisfaction. What do you see?

#PrintYourWork

One of the services I offer is to help my clients with printing and displaying their photographs.  A task I love to work on.

I love helping and advising clients on putting together beautiful gallery walls.  I have software that allows me to take a photo of your space and mock up a gallery wall - this helps you picture how the space would look with photos hung in different frames and in different scenarios. One of the most difficult things to figure out is the size of the photos.  Often people print photos that are too small for the space, so one of the most important aspects of printing and displaying your work is to size it correctly.

There are lots of places today that you can get great ready made frames, like Crate & Barrel Pottery Barn and West Elm.  There are, however, a lot of awesome online options now as well that make custom framing so much easier and more accessible. Ones to check out: Framebridge, Simply Framed & Framed & Matted.

Let me know if I can help you with your display or answer any questions on printing your photographs. Make getting them off your computer a resolution for 2016!

Third Floor Has the Ideal Light

This shoot left me giddy. The light was completely ideal and the love that this family showed to each other is evident in the photos that were created. They were so calm, low key and fun….this coupled with the amazing light throughout the house but mainly on their amazing 3rd floor made this a dream session!

THE Snow Storm

It has been a fun past few days. I am always up for a good snow storm, it is just in my blood. My mom used to get so excited for snow storms…We would wake up so early and listen to the radio to see if school was closed. Then, if it was, we would not go back to bed (too excited!), we would turn on the news and watch the broadcast. Then we would play outside and have loads and loads of hot chocolate!

My kids have proven they love snow storms just as much! There was no keeping them inside this past weekend. It was all play in our neighborhood. Kind of sad it is coming to an end….

How I started 2015....yes 2015

It has been a disgustingly long time since I blogged (yes I used the word disgusting)...I love this blog and feel so sad for its neglect. Esp, since I have so much to share! I have to say, Instagram is such a quick easy way to send updates I have been much more dedicated to that over the past few months....since I can do that from bed, ha!

What a busy year this was.  I am aiming not to glorify "busy" in my life...but my excuse for not blogging so much was because of all the time I spent shooting and focusing on my clients!  So, can't complain about that. However, I vow to keep my blog updated from here on out.

I wanted to start by sharing how I began 2015....I partnered with an amazing children's store in Georgetown called, Little Birdies to shoot some of their best clients. I got just about 5-10 minutes with each of them and look at their darling faces!

It was so fun! I loved it! I urge you to check out the store - great products and run by the sweetest woman

Favorite Children's Books - Second Post

Thank you for all the enthusiasm for my first post about In the Town All Year 'Round!  Here is my next book!  The Curious Garden

This book, about a boy who turns his dull city into a magnificent garden, has the most beautiful illustrations. It is my son's favorite book - my son who plays army everyday :)  The garden that he makes starts on an abandoned railroad and resembles the High Line in New York City.  It would be a fun to read this prior to visiting the High Line. I am actually thinking of planning a special visit there for my son now because I think it would bring this book to life! Happy reading and more soon….
