It has been a disgustingly long time since I blogged (yes I used the word disgusting)...I love this blog and feel so sad for its neglect. Esp, since I have so much to share! I have to say, Instagram is such a quick easy way to send updates I have been much more dedicated to that over the past few months....since I can do that from bed, ha!
What a busy year this was. I am aiming not to glorify "busy" in my life...but my excuse for not blogging so much was because of all the time I spent shooting and focusing on my clients! So, can't complain about that. However, I vow to keep my blog updated from here on out.
I wanted to start by sharing how I began 2015....I partnered with an amazing children's store in Georgetown called, Little Birdies to shoot some of their best clients. I got just about 5-10 minutes with each of them and look at their darling faces!
It was so fun! I loved it! I urge you to check out the store - great products and run by the sweetest woman
2014-What a Year!
Thank you all for making 2014 our best year ever!!! The business grew in leaps and bounds and there is a ton of momentum going into 2015….
In 2014 I had the joy of working with repeat clients, families I watch grow year after year. It is a marvel and so much fun for me. I love working with children each year as they grow, and I find I develop a special bond with them. I love coming up with creative plans for shoots with my repeat customers so that no two shoots are exactly the same.
Meeting new families is so exciting! I met so many new and wonderful families in 2014 and appreciate you all letting me enter your world and entrusting me to capture your special moments.
I have to admit in 2014, I fell even more in love with newborns! I had the best experiences helping families welcome their newest members. In 2015, I hope to gain even more newborn clients as well as hopefully some hospital shoots. Spread the word!
During the year I introduced new products and technology, which helped you, the client, get your photos off the computer and into your hands and onto your walls! I especially enjoyed creating gorgeous heirloom albums for clients.
And, 2014 was the year I entered the fine art world as well. Something I always had my eye on but didn't know where I fit in. Then, I found my niche and launched in. An exciting new part of my business that I hope to nurture and grow in the coming years.
Looking ahead to 2015
I am entering 2015 with so much momentum and excitement. Good things are happening. Let me share some of it with you….!
I am happy to announce I will be partnering with The Scout Guide and will be the official photographer for The Scout Guide Washington DC which will begin production soon. This has been a goal of mine and I could not be more excited that this is becoming a reality. Follow us on instagram
I am doing a workshop with a renowned photographer in April, which I know will help me grow tremendously. I am counting the days!
I have lots of new location ideas for 2015! New and innovative ideas. As my clients know I don't like using the locations everyone else uses. How about the East Building of the National Gallery? (The atrium is open even during the renovations.) Cool, right? Let's make your shoot an adventure! I am planning to offer more travel and on-location shoots to clients during the vacation months! Watch out for these announcements.
More than anything I am just so excited to build on the momentum gained this year and make 2015 bigger and better!
I always know it is going to be a good shoot when I am greeted with hugs!! oh, the best hugs from these cute little kindergarteners. I didn't want to stop hugging them the whole time Can you believe I have been taking their fall photos since they were four months old? They were alot easier this time around, haha. I love this family! Take a walk down memory lane.... HERE, HERE and HERE....oh and let us not forget this Hey! Look! We got one with the dogs!! I have been neglecting my blog lately and posting alot on instagram! Please follow me @claireharveyphoto
Babies babies and more babies!! It is always fun and special to get to photograph a friend.....esp a beautiful one (beautiful inside and out). I love photographing siblings so much, it is just such a special dynamic when a toddler lets a baby enter "their" world.....and I love being part of it.
Blogging is the last thing I should be doing now...but hey, why not push the "to do's" just a little further down the list in order to gaze at these gorgeous people and remember a fun day full of family, friends, laughs and fun! The morning started out with a parade. My kids have been talking about last years parade...well, since the street sweepers cleaned it up, so they were very excited for this years! It is that good 'ole fashion kind of parade that just makes you so happy (this year their were a few too many politicians in it tho....)
After a leasurely swim and a quick rest we headed over to our friends for a BBQ! This is my fav surprise photo from the night! HA!!! made me burst out laughing when I saw it... The things you catch...the things they do!
And then there was this
And the sun sang to me as we closed out the wonderful day.
I hope your 4th was full of sparklers!
I have been lucky enough to shoot a few baptisms this year. I really really feel so honored to be a part of these family celebrations that are so full of love and faith. It is a sweet and special ocassion to capture. It doesn't hurt when you have a gorgeous baby in a generations old gown....with two doting brothers.
For Mother's Day, I requested a picnic lunch. We found a beautiful tree on the Mall right next to the Capitol. Under the trees the weather was perfection. We ate our lunch, played ball and talked. Heaven. I had one goal for the day .....actually I had two goals for the day... 1) try to relax and not rush, hurry or worry and 2) of course had to do with photography....GET IN THE PHOTO....
My inital reaction when reviewing the lot was, how do I look? But, when I edited them tonight, they all just made me smile and made me so happy, so so so happy. Even if I didnt look good, my children were so happy, we were happy together and this makes me happy. THIS is the point of being in the photo, my friends! I understand it now! Not just to say, oh, look here we were here, blah blah.... But, to see this side of it, to capture that happiness together. Capture and keep those memories and those feelings forever and ever and hold them near and dear.
On then there was this little fashion statement of a 2.5 year old, ballerina, princess, prescious girl.
One of my last shoots of 2013 was with this darling family. Their home was the perfect backdrop for the session. It has great light and interesting windows as well as contemporay art. I am REALLY into using art as the backdrop for portraits. It adds depth to the image along with a splash of color that does not over take the rest of the image.
Sunday funday and lots and lots of huggies......My heart melts when they yell "HUGGIES" and run to each other and squueze each other. divine. I hope your day was much of the same. xo
This was one of those sessions. It stays with you. This family is just amazing and being with them for 2 hours I just felt the love and joy they cultivate in their home. There are many times I leave a session geuningly thanking my clients for what they gave me - their time, hearts, trust, patience and moment in time. This was definately one of those times, oh, how I thank them.....enjoy....
A session to last a lifetime.
Editing this and just so excited. I knew it was going to be good. I have not had good light lately. I have been getting some dull light, which in some respects is great and then you get an afternoon like this.....AND....hair like this and a little cute button like this it is MAGIC. This makes a photographer happy!
Just a few samples!
Happiest birthday to my sweet girl! I can't believe she it two today.
I couldn't imagine a more loving, cuddly, adventursome, little girl who has just brought so much light into our lives.
Often around Thanksgiving I think to myself that I am grateful for being grateful! I feel fortunate that I was thought the importance of gratitude This translates into much of my life, but today is esp relevent when I am recieving emails of thanks from clients. I appreciate it more than you know. I am SO grateful for all of my wonderul, amazing clients and their expression gratitude and thanks towards me! happy thanksigving and enjoy this time of giving thanks!
Yesterday on the blog I featured a family I have worked with for 4 years. Today I am featuring a new family. As much as I love my repeat clients I also love getting to know new families!!! When I go to a shoot with a new family I get SO excite because I know I am getting to add to "my family". When I meet a new family there is always something that catches me right a way. With this family it was the gorgeous mama, the amazingly beautiful toddler with stunning eyes, long eyelashes and angelic face, and the sweet daddy caring for his daughter. I was lucky enough to get to shoot this darling girl on her 2nd birthday!!!
...And when I say, oldies, I mean my repeat clients!!! One of my more favorite things each year is to catch up with "my families". Even though I may only see them once a year, it seems as if we just saw each other (....except the kids have a year growth on them!).
This family, one of my all time favorites. We have so much fun when we get together each year. We have gone from crying babies to best friends, I am happy to say. This year was the most fun with these kiddos, we chatted, rode scooters, discovered lots and lots of cool leaves....they are to eat!!!! The kids...not the leaves.....
And you should see the two of them togerher. So sweet, best friends. They even spontanously held hands at one point during the shoot....heat melting.
I met this family one morning. It was the ideal fall morning. I'll tell you I like the morning shoot thing. It was peaceful and quiet, crisp and happy. Maybe it was just because this family was perfection...and to say that about a one year old and three year old...That says alot! I LOVE fall and I LOVE my clients!
Sometimes when I am editing I have to pause beacuse I am overwhelmed. I am at that point with this session. I am not even 1/3rd through this shoot and my heart is singing!
